A Katazome Dyed Circular Mirror Cover: Fully Lined
$45.00 USD
late nineteenth century
9 1/4" x 9 1/2", 23.5 cm x 24 cm
This beautiful object is said to have been a mirror cover and it is completely hand stitched of katazome dyed, roughly woven cotton which is fully lined in hand loomed, green colored cotton cloth.
The cotton lining is overdyed indigo and the face and back of the cover show undulating lines called tatewaku: the tatewaku are drawn to suggest wisteria flowers and staggered within the curves are depictions of stylized chrysanthemums.
A gorgeous little thing whose barely-off-round shape is very attractive--as is the way the katazome pattern fits onto it.
