A Group of Three Figured Cottons: Two Sarasa, One Katazome

$45.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
each piece approximately: 9" x 13", 23 cm x 33 cm

This is a set of three fragments of figured cloth, each fragment is selvedge-to-selvedge.

The two on the bottom are Indian inspired cloth which in Japan is referred to as wasarasa, the bottom most piece is pale in tone and seems to be heavily faded--its cloth is woven from hand spun cotton.

The fragment of cotton at the top is indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth which shows a pattern of interlocking circles with what might be a stylized chrysanthemum in the center of each.

This is a nice set of old Japanese cloth that can be applied to many different projects or can provide inspiration for countless others.
