A Generously Long Piece of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Stenciled on Both Sides

$175.00 USD

early twentieth century
88" x 13", 223.5 cm x 33 cm

This is a generously sized length of katazome dyed cotton whose color tone is inky blue, almost black. The pattern is a bold one that is composed of well cribs interspersed with a flower image that has notched petals like are found on cherry blossoms.

What is remarkable about this length is that it was stencil resist dyed on both its sides. We know this because the pattern is as clear and bright on the back as it is on the front, and this is illustrated here on the two final detail photos that accompany this post.

The cloth is in very good, used condition with no obvious flaws.

Very attractive.
