A Generous Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Cranes as Roundels

$95.00 USD

early twentieth century
78 1/2" x 12 1/2", 199.5 cm x 31.5 cm

This is a quite long, nicely dyed length of indigo katazome cotton whose repeat pattern shows stylized dark and light cranes rendered as roundels. The light toned cranes are small in size than the dark toned cranes.

The images are set against a dark background, the indigo color is still deep and rich in tone and the cloth itself is woven with a supple hand.

The generous length is in good, used condition and the dyes are still strong--and what is nice about it aside from the playful pattern cranes is what the crane symbolizes. The crane is a symbol for long life and as the crane mates for it it also conveys a wish of marital fidelity and harmony.

In good, used condition.

Very nice.
