A Beautifully Dyed Length of Katazome Cotton: Interesting Reverse Side

$85.00 USD

late nineteenth century
31 3/4" x 13 1/2", 80.5 cm x 34.25 cm

Shown here is an indigo dyed katazome cloth which shows a pattern of evenly spaced, stylized chrysanthemums amid a circular, decorative network of filigree. Touches of very faded orange color highlights the pattern.

This is a very good length of old katazome, not only for its dyeing but also for its fibers. The cotton cloth is hand woven from hand spun yarns and it is good weight.

The color, although quite faded overall, still serves to bring out the complexity of the katazome design which is lovely to behold.

This piece would have been taken from a larger one, a futon cover, and this design is particularly interesting and rich.

Please note the image of the reverse side which has a beauty very different from the face.
