A Baby's Sekka Shibori Cotton Kimono: Deep Indigo
mid twentieth century
shoulder to hem x sleeve tip to sleeve tip: 23" x 23", 58.5 cm x 58.5 cm
This small kimono, meant for a baby or toddler, is hand stitched from indigo dyed cotton made in the sekka shibori technique.
The pattern on the coat is probably familiar to many of you: as just stated it is sekka shibori, or a kind of folded shibori whose pattern resembles a blue, snow flower.
The kimono is seemingly not-as-yet worn as it shows little, if any, signs of wear. The cotton is crisp and the indigo dye is a deep, rich, sapphire blue.
The small kimono is outfitted with a stitched-on belt and overall this is a deeply charming kimono that is hand stitched and in wonderful condition.
This delightful little garment calls up memories of old Japan and it is visually vibrant and wholly enchanting.
Recommended.
