This is a length of deep-toned indigo dyed katazome cotton, the cotton being hand loomed from hand spun cottons, a characteristic that is desirable for old Japanese folk textiles.

The pattern is that of dark and light stylized chrysanthemums against a lattice or grid background. The geometric appeal of squares and circles is visually entertaining and the design itself is almost lighthearted in spirit.

The length seems not to have been used and if it was it was used sparingly. You can see there is some bleeding of the indigo in certain parts of the design but overall this is a well done pattern.

Very nice.
