A Length of Patched Katazome Cotton: Figured Cloth

$85.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
61" x 33", 155 cm x 33 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed cotton katazome cloth that, on its public facing side, shows a pattern of stylized chrysanthemums and arabesques. This pattern is shown on the last detail photo that accompanies this post.

However what is highlighted here is its proper back side that shows a lovely field of mottled blues and lighter, blurred tones, a very different mood than what the front of the cloth presents.

Often the back of katazome cloth is equally beautiful to the figured front of the cloth as, arguably, is the case here. The three mending patches affixed to the right hand side of the cloth add visual character to this already interesting-looking length.

The cotton of the base cloth is hand spun and hand woven which adds to the overall richness of the texture and look of this very handsome length of patched and mended, indigo dyed cotton.

Lovely.
