A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Paulownia Flowers as Roundels

$85.00 USD

early twentieth century
65 1/4" x 12 1/2", 165.5 cm x 31.5 cm

This is a length of richly dyed indigo katazome cotton. The length, taken from a futon cover, shows a repeat pattern of paulownia flowers rendered as roundels and surrounded by a field of arabesques.

The repeat pattern is a handsome one and the motif is one that might be familiar as paulownia is often seen as a design on textiles.

Shown as it is as a roundel is a slightly different take on the traditional image and as it is done here it is a beautiful iteration of a well-known design.

In good, used condition this length is attractive for its generous length and its wonderful appearance.
