A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Oversized Pattern #1, Pine Needles

$30.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
25 1/2" x 12", 65 cm x 30.5 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.

The pattern shows a design of tied shibori blips that shows an over sized image of pine needles, a traditional pattern. Pine needles such as seen in this design suggest marital fidelity: pine needles fall in pairs.

The shibori is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition.

Wonderful to look at!
