A Pair of Sashiko Stitched Work Mittens: Two Patterns

$295.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
each: 10" x 7", 25.5 cm x 18 cm

This is a pair of seemingly unused, indigo dyed cottonĀ sashiko stitched work mittens that are stitched in two different patterns, the zigzag arrow feather pattern and the persimmon flower pattern.

Each of the mittens is embroidered with both patterns, front and back. A kind of checkerboard motif is used for the thumb, making for three different patterns in total.

These are charming and hard to find these days so it is a real pleasure to present them here now.

The pair was clearly intended to be used for work however it seems the pair was stored before having the opportunity to put them to work.

They mittens are in very good, unused condition and would make a wonderful addition to any collection of Japanese folk textiles.
