A Boro Zokin #1: Kasuri Cloth

$18.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
12" x 13", 30.5 cm x 33 cm

This zokin, or sashiko stitched dustrag, is sewn from layers of cotton cloth which are then sashiko stictched together.

What makes this zokin so interesting is that it is sewn from hand loomed kasuri or ikat cottons: the play of white cotton stitches against the woven pattern of the kasuri cloth is just lovely and visually very interesting.

Also, note the patched repairs to this dustrag, which also shows some staining to the bottom edge as well as a bit of ground-in wear near the patched repair.

The indigo blue of the cotton is still rich and intense; this traditional dustrag will make a wonderful home accessory.

A lovely thing.
