A Brightly Colored Sakiori Obi: High Intensity Colors

$95.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
100" x 5", 254 cm x 15.75 cm

This is a lovely, brightly colored sakiori obi, a traditional kimono sash that has been woven with a weft of shredded cloth.

The warp yarns of this thickly woven obi alternate red and yellow, producing a striped effect and adding a haze of red and yellow over the weft yarns.  The weft yarns--made of rag--also alternate in color to produce a regular pattern up the obi.  The weft yarns are white, mottled grey/black or grey/blue and red.  The overall color is hot, saturated and vibrant.

The obi is in very good condition with no discernible stains, frays or holes.

A really lovely, cheery sakiori obi.
