A Black and White Sakiori Obi: Fine Rag Weaving

$85.00 USD

ca. mid to late twentieth century
112" x 5 12", 284 cm x 14 cm

This is a handsomely colored and woven sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

The warp yarns on this obi are alternating stripes of  black and white cotton which gives the finished obi a checked appearance when seen wit the the white, grey and deep blue colored weft yarns.  The rag weft yarns are made from very narrowly shredded, recycled cottons, with the white color fluctuating between a kind of bright white to a more ivory colored white.  This handsome obi is in good condition, and it is good-looking.

A beautiful, elegant folk textile.
