A Mended Katazome Zokin: Chrysanthemums

$22.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
10 1/4" x 13 1/4", 26 cm x 33.5 cm

This zokin, or sashiko stitched dustrag, is sewn from layers of cotton cloth which are then sashiko stitched together.

What makes this zokin so interesting is that it one side is made of late nineteenth, early twentieth century, katazome dyed cotton which has been sashiko stitched.  The katazome cloth shows stylized chrysanthemums; the back of the zokin shows a lovely pattern of deep colored stripes.

This traditional dustrag shows a lot of visual appeal, both in terms of color and texture.

A lovely thing.
