A Patched Length of Kasuri: Indigo Dyed Cotton

$35.00 USD

ca. early twentieth century
42" x 13", 106.5 cm x 33 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed kasuri cotton that shows large windowpane checks which enclose alternating white kasuri checks inside.

The staggering of the white kasuri is really lovely as is the application of 3 patches, 2 of which are machine stitched to the surface, one of them in a very eccentric fashion, as can be seen on the accompanying detail photos.

The base cloth, which is of hand woven cotton shows a few tiny holes which do not attract from the overall interest of the cloth.

A really interesting and handsome length of hand woven kasuri boro cloth from old Japan.
