A Length of Kasuri Cotton: Complex and Dimensional Zigzag

$80.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
64" x 12 3/4", 162.5 cm x 32.5 cm

This length of indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth shows an alluring, weft-based pattern of wavy, undulating, zigzag lines.

The repeat pattern is that of matsukawabishi or a repeated, stylized pine bark design. The pattern is done in two styles one of which is staggered and overlaid onto the other.

The result is artistic and beautiful and the large scale of the repeat is boldly modern.

Note a patched repair to the length, shown in an accompanying detail photograph.

A wonderfully complex design.
