A Length of Diagonally Cut Boro Kasuri Cotton: Handspun Yarns

What a wonderfully eccentric length of gorgeous, old kasuri dyed cotton.

This length is made primarily of diagonally-cut pieces that have been fitted together to create a regular-shaped piece.

The wedge-shaped pieces are clearly taken and re-purposed from a finished garment which could have been a kappa or traveling cape that is stitched from wedge-shaped pieces--or perhaps these shaped pieces were taken from a over sized sleeping kimono or yogi?

In any case the odd configuration is really lovely--as is the fantastically rich hand spun cotton kasuri cloth. The cloth is rich in texture and ito aji or thread flavor and it feels wonderful in the hand. The design, as you can see, is also marvelously appealing.

A quirky length of old kasuri cotton, this is something interesting for collectors of Japanese boro textiles. It is unusual and very attractive.
