A Fragment of Geometrically Imaged Kasuri: Indigo Dyed Cotton

This is an attractive fragment of indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth that shows a nicely geometric design.

The network of jagged lines that make up the pattern are an allusion to ice as it cracks and thaws in late winter/early spring.

The groups of zigzag shapes inside these lines is a stylized representation of pine bark. Flickers of pale colored pairs of warp-based vertical lines add sparkle and light to this deep-toned pattern.

Really lovely.
