A Pieced Indigo Dyed Cotton Kasuri Futon Cover: Two Patterns

$245.00 USD

early twentieth century
51 1/4" x 29", 135 cm x 73.5 cm

This utterly charming, pieced and patched indigo dyed cotton kasuri futon cover is made from two patterns of kasuri cotton. The piecing is done randomly which adds a marvelously playful feeling to the old cloth.

The two patterns shown are umbrellas with folding fans and fractured bishamontsunagi with diamond flowers.

The cotton is fairly lightweight and the color of the indigo has dulled nicely. As can be seen there are a good number of hand stitched seams and the pieces of cloth which comprise this futon cover are arranged in a fairly random way which adds to the rustic charm.

Charming and delightful, this old futon cover is something with a lot of visual allure and speaks so well to the ingeniousness and resourcefulness of its maker.
