A Large Irregularly Shaped Cotton Boro Futon Cover: Plaids

$85.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
48" x 55", 122 cm x 139.5 cm

This is a large and irregularly shaped boro futon cover that is hand stitched using three types of plaid cottons.

It has a rather jolly presence with its large-scale plaids and its cheery colors: there is a "light" feeling about this hand pieced cloth.

It is stitched from four panels on the bottom while the wider top area is stitched from one-and-a-half lengths.  The top blue piece of cotton seems to have more age than the lighter colored plaids which seem to date to the 1930s or 40s or so.

Some good patching toward the bottom, this is a casual and artful boro cloth from old Japan.

Delightful.
