Two Small Pieces of Good Quality Arimatsu Shibori: Hinode and Yanagi
left: 13 1/2" x 13/12", 34 cm x 34 cm
right: 12" x 13 1/2", 30.5 cm x 34 cm
This a pair of two small pieces of indigo dyed cotton shibori.
The pattern on the left is that of yanagi or willow which, when you see the image dyed into the cloth, makes sense. The long lines indigo dye emanating from a single source suggest the "weeping" branches of the willow tree.
The length on the right shows what is known as the hinode or "sunrise" pattern, a fairly identifiable one of the thousands of designs and variants that were developed in Japan's "shibori capital" towns of Narumi and Arimatsu.
These two beautiful patterns are desirable and the small pieces here can easily be put to good use.
