Two Pieces of Two Process Shibori: Squares

$55.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
17 1/2" x 13 1/4", 44.5 cm x 33.5 cm
27" x 13 3/4", 68.5 cm x 33.5 cm

This is a pair of lightweight woven cotton pieces, both of which are composed of two, hand stitched, smaller pieces.

They are of indigo dyed miura shibori which has been dyed in such a way where there are alternate empty round areas over which a stenciled square with an stylized family crest is embedded.

The pieced length would have been taken from a yukata which is an unlined, casual summer kimono.

The graphic impact of the hard-edged square "cells" against the watery miura shibori is of vital visual note.

Just lovely.
