Two Joined Panels of Absolutely Beautiful Hand Spun Cotton: Patches
late nineteenth century
64" x 27", 162.5 cm x 68.5 cm
Sometimes beautiful things are very simple. This is the case with this faded, tone-on-tone indigo dyed cotton length which is hand stitched from two panels.
The base cloth of the piece is a large-scale blocky plaid in two tones of indigo. The surface is worn and the colors have faded and have become very soft; the fading and the surface wear bring out the really lovely quality of the hand spun yarns which is one of the most beautiful attributes about this length.
It is hand stitched from two panels of two pieces each and it shows about 13 patches. Please note some tiny pinprick sized holes, none of them noticeable.
Wonderfully subtle and very attractive--and with good age this is recommended for its good quality cloth and its fantastically soulful presence.
