Hand Spun Raw Silk from Akita Prefecture: Rustic Mountain Silk
$23.00 USD
early twentieth century
each approximately: 25" x 1 1/4" x 1 1/4", 63.5 cm x 3 cm x 3 cm
Shown here are long and narrow skeins of extremely wiry, rustic, hand spun raw silk which is said to come from the rural mountains of Akita prefecture in Northeast Japan.
In old Japan, private families would sometimes raise silkworms as way to augment their income, and it is likely that this batch of wiry filaments was taken from a home batch.
Each skein weighs approximately 1 1/2 oz. or 42.5 grams
Beautiful old fibers, to be sure.
