Dazzling Itajime Shibori: Three Panels

$345.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
58" x 37", 147.5 cm x 94 cm

This beautifully realized, three panel cotton cloth is dyed with indigo in the itajime shibori method where folding and clamping are utilized to produce this beautifully, soft and dazzling geometric pattern.

As is quite obvious, there is a wonderful glow to this design as it feels to be almost giving off light in some illuminated way.

The patterns of this kind of clamped itajime design are varied and this particular one harnesses the undyed areas of the cloth to produce an almost kaleidoscopic visual effect. Just beautiful.

The cloth was probably once a futon cover and the three panels are hand stitched together. There are one or two small and completely inconsequential faint stains but otherwise the piece is in good, used condition.

The beauty is recommended.
