An Unusued Yukata Bolt: Wonderful Applied Labels
ca. mid to late twentieth century
folded, as shown: 13 3/4" x 8", 35 cm x 20 cm
It is the fantastic packaging more than anything else that makes this unused cotton yukata bolt wonderful.
As is very clear, this is a fairly commercial kind of yukata which is dyed using nontraditional techniques.
What is wonderful about it is the photo of the man who is modeling a yukata, which, of course, is an image of what the kimono will look like once it is cut, put together and sewn to be a yukata, or an unlined, casual kimono. Note that the photo is hand stitched to the bolt.
As well, the two brand labels are very attractive--and to be fair, the cotton's printed pattern is quite nice. The pattern is narrow stripes over which a mottled blue is printed, not bad at all.
Collectible, lovely, and charming.
