An Unusual Length of Kasuri Cotton: Interesting Pattern
early to mid twentieth century
28" x 13", 71 cm x 33 cm
This short length of hand woven, indigo dyed cotton kasuri cloth is embedded with a curious design.
Double rows of the traditional well cover motif in colors of faded orange and yellow are interspersed with a bold, white "H"-like design, which could or could not be the Western letter "H."
It is an unusual pattern to be sure, but it creates a handsome repeat. Please note one length of the right selvedge is a bit shredded, which is pictured on he accompanying detail photographs.
Otherwise in good condition, this is a lovely, and simple length of hand woven Japanese kasuri cloth, seemingly dyed in real indigo.
