An Unopened, Unused Full Bolt of Kasuri Cotton: Blue on White
mid twentieth century
approximately 13 yards x 13 1/4"
approximately 12 m x 33.5 cm
This is an unused bolt of cotton kasuri cotton; it is stitched closed on one side and has not been opened
As the bolt has not been opened its length has not been measured. A traditional tanmono or full bolt of cloth in Japan usually measures around 12 m so the measurements noted above are based on this.
The cloth is of a white base and shows a repeat pattern of the well cover design dyed in indigo. The exterior of the bolt shows some foxing and a very faint yellowing from age and exposure: by looking at the detail photos here you can see this.
Still, this is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in Japanese kasuri cotton and this one has a good, traditional design.
