An Old Daifukucho: Repaired Binding and Missing Cover
early twentieth century
9 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 1", 24 cm x 16 cm x 2.5 cm
This is a very nice, quite thick daifukucho, a hand written book which could have originally been used for inventories, for accounting, for ledgers or as a record of loans.
This one is filled with many pages of hand writing done in sumi or charcoal-based ink. One of its covers is missing and the other is very abraded: a thin, metal wire helps hold the binding of the book together. About 2/3 of the many pages are filled with hand written notes.
A good example of a traditional daifukucho.
