An Old and Beautifully Worn Indigo Dyed Cotton Boro Panel: Hand Spun Cotton
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
75 1/2" x 12 1/2", 192 cm x 31.5 cm
This beautifully tattered and slightly misshapen length of patched indigo dyed cotton was more than likely taken from a futon cover. As can easily be seen there are rather conspicuous holes to the length and they are situated at the top, left area.
The cloth is a few layers where the patching occurs and the cloth overall is consistent in age with each other which is always a nice detail when considering boro textiles.
The indigo toned cotton is roughed-up as is easy to see and there has been a good deal of wear to the cloth which adds character and warmth to it.
A simply beautiful length of old, patched indigo, this would look very nice displayed as art or shown in the home as an accessory.
