An Intricate Plaid Cotton Length: Safflower and Indigo Dyes
$45.00 USD
late nineteenth century
56" x 13 1/2", 142.25 cm x 34.25 cm
This is a beautiful length of hand loomed cotton which was taken from a futon cover.
The plaid is wonderfully handsome and is dyed using indigo and safflower, or benibana, dyes. The pattern is enhanced by the addition of asagi or pale blue weft and warp yarns, which give a kind of "breathing" room to the overall pattern.
One side of this length shows a bit of light fading while the other is less faded, but overall the condition is good.
A very handsome plaid which was dyed in botanical dyes.
