An Indigo Dyed Kasuri Kimono: Tightly Woven Thick Cotton Cloth
early twentieth century
shoulder to hem x sleeve tip to sleeve tip: 54 1/2" x 49", 138.5 cm x 124.5 cm
The pure and rich indigo tone of this thickly woven kasuri kimono is hard to capture in photographs, but when seen in person it is beautiful.
The cloth used to make this kimono is fairly heavy weight, or, more exactly, it is densely hand woven from what appear to be hand spun cotton yarns.
The kasuri design is handsome--and as the way it is designed and executed, the scale of it is in perfect proportion to that of the finished kimono.
This is a highly wearable garment and one that is extremely handsome to look at. There is some loosening to the seam of the collar area inside the kimono but otherwise this garment is in very good, used condition.
Wonderful cloth and a beautiful, nicely considered design.
