An Indigo Dyed Cotton Boro Futon Cover Section: Hand Spun Cotton

$145.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
55" x 42 1/2", 132 cm x 108 cm

This good-sized and very handsome section from an indigo dyed cotton boro futon cover is composed of great-looking pieces of old, hand spun, hand woven cottons that are hand stitched together.

The hand spun aspect of this cloth is just want you would want to have in an old Japanese folk textile and this one is composed entirely of that: of course the futon cover is completely hand stitched.

There are areas where seams have come undone and there is a small hole (shown) but overall this is an attractive, unassuming-yet-visually interesting--and old--boro futon cover.

One of the most interesting aspects of an "authentic" futon cover such as this one is to admire it on the micro level, meaning to appreciate the quality of the yarns and threads.

As this one has so much of what the Japanese refer to as ito aji or thread flavor for this reason alone this cloth is a treasure: skilled hands created the yarns which skilled hands then wove into cloth.

Really very nice and recommended.
