An Extra Long Bolt of Itajime Shibori: 19.5 yards or 18 meters
early to mid twentieth century
19.5 yards x 13 1/4", 18 m x 33.5 cm
This is an extremely long bolt of indigo dyed cotton shibori which is done in the itajime or clamp dyed method and shows a repeat pattern of the snowflower design.
This bolt is about twice the length of an ordinary full bolt which is made that particular length in order to stitch one full garment, so perhaps this bolt was meant to be cut in two in order to sell it for the purpose of stitching two garments.
The sekka, or snowflower, design is a popular one with itajime dyeing and the design as shown here is clean, clear and regular throughout the very long bolt.
This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire so much of this classic kind of shibori dyed cotton.
