An Egasuri Length: Rain Dragons in Weft Yarns

$65.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
64" x 12 3/4", 162.5 cm x 29.5 cm

This length of indigo dyed cotton is hand stitched from two distinct pieces of the same cloth.

It is a piece of egasuri or picture kasuri cotton; in this case, the very elaborate and all over design was produced using the weft yarns only: quite a feat, being that the design on the cloth is so complex.

The image is a pale blue and the ground is a dark blue.  The image is that of very stylized dragons in what appears to be a very tumultuous heavenly abode: zig-zags and cloud like forms tear across the cloth from edge to edge.

On the reverse of the piece, not pictured, there are three applied mending patches, each hand stitched to the base, and each of a striped cotton.

A lovely piece of egasuri cotton, in good condition.
