A Woman's Shibori Dyed Yukata: Large Scale Hemp Leaf Pattern
early twentieth century
shoulder to hem x sleeve tip to sleeve tip: 55" x 46", 140 cm x 117 cm
This deeply indigo dyed, shibori garment is a woman's yukata or an unlined, casual kimono. The cotton used to make the yukata is of good quality and rather heavy in weight.
What is so wonderful about this yukata is the large scale, traditional pattern that decorates the entire surface.
The motif seen here is the often-seenĀ asanoha or hemp leaf pattern, one that has many variations and in this case it is rendered large.
The condition of this garment is good and used and there is no obvious damage or flaws to it.
It is still very wearable and its hand stitching makes for a durable, long lasting garment.
