A Wide and Long Multi-Colored Sakiori Obi: Small Snag
mid twentieth century
119" x 10 1/2", 302 cm x 26.5 cm
This is a lovely, very wide sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The warp yarns are of pale blue and medium grey colored cotton which lends a richness of tone to the overall multi-colored appearance of this obi. The weft yarns are randomly spaced bars of many saturated colors, a good number of them are of rich tones of orange and blue.
This very good looking obi is in good, used condition: it shows an ingrained crease along its length in the middle of the obi and one small frayed area, the size of a bean.
A beautiful, exuberantly colored folk textile.
