A Vintage Zabuton Cover #2
mid twentieth century
21 1/2" x 19", 54.5 cm x 48.25 cm
This kasuri cotton pillow sham was used in old Japan as a traditional seating cushion when it was stuffed with cotton batting. The material used for this zabuton could easily have been recycled from a futon cover.
Basically this pillow case is a shell to receive an insert: be aware, however that this zabuton cover was used hard and its surface is quite burnished by an over all patina, and there is a nicely repaired hole which can be seen in the photos attached here.
In very well-used condition with some snags and small holes, with a little help, this old zabuton cover still has some life in it.
