A Very Patched Fragment from a Boro Kimono: Layers and Stitches

$95.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
63" x 13 1/2", 160 cm x 34.25 cm

This wonderfully raw, heavily patched and stitched long fragment of boro cloth was taken from the lining of a work coat.  As can be seen by the many detail photos that accompany this post, this length is beautifully used and very wonderfully mended.

Pay special attention to the top area of the length which shows a great piling-up of patches and some lovely eccentric stitching.

What is wonderful about this length is the variety of cottons used to patch it as well as the strong stitches to attach the patches to the base.  The reverse side of this cloth is shown here to illustrate this--and it, too, is beautiful in its own way.

A really lovely boro cloth.

Recommended.
