A Very Large, Four Panel Boro Kaya: Cotton Mosquito Netting

$145.00 USD

ca. early to mid twentieth century
76" x 52", 193 cm x 132 cm

This is a very handsome, quite large cotton kaya or mosquito netting which is composed of four panels of green-dyed cotton mesh, which is quite supple gauzy and clingy.

The cotton's green color may or may not be over dyed indigo, but green seems to have been one of the preferred colors for kaya as it was thought that green color repelled insects and lightning.

The four panels are in very good, used condition, and on the surface are two, hand stitched mending patches in blue cotton mesh, the same type of cloth as the base.

A very good looking, large kaya piece from old Japan.
