A Two Panel Indigo Dyed Boro Panel: Small Checks
$80.00 USD
early twentieth century
42" x 24", 106.75 cm x 61 cm
This two panel fragment of indigo dyed boro cloth is hand stitched from four separate pieces of woven, small-checked cotton.
The original function of the cotton cloth may have been that of a kimono, but it is likely that the kimono was deconstructed and re-arranged to become a futon cover.
The surface of this beautiful boro cloth is rich in boro detail: fading and patching intermingle in a wonderfully subtle manner to create a wonderful interplay of tone and texture.
A very good looking fragment of boro cloth from old Japan.
Wonderful.
