A Twice Dyed Shibori Fragment: Newborn Baby Diaper

$22.00 USD

early twentieth century
14 1/4" x 7 1/2", 36 cm x 19 cm

This small piece of hand stitched, layered cotton is said to be a diaper for a newborn. It is a beautiful for its hand spun cotton cloth and for the subtle shibori pattern.

In this case the shibori seems to have been dyed in pale indigo, then pleated, then dyed in the miura pattern, which makes is a very complex little artifact.

Were it to be opened, which it easily can be because it is hand stitched, this diaper would yield a good amount of old shibori cloth.

Lovely.
