A Super Intricate Striped Zanshi Panel: Wildly Warped
ca. late nineteenth century
58" x 12 3/4", 147.25 cm x 32.5 cm
Talk about complex and beautiful: this length of zanshi-ori, or cloth woven from leftover yarns, is simply stunning.
The warp yarns are richly variegated and are defined by two, wide stripes in a rich, black color. The weft yarns are kasuri or ikat cotton yarns and show a regular, lovely pattern up the length of the cloth.
The warp yarns are blue, white, yellow, orange, black--and a kind of twisted black-and-white cotton yarn that gives off a staticky grey tone.
The overall condition of this length is good, and its visual appeal is extremely high.
Really lovely, and recommended.
