A Subtly Toned Sakiori Obi: Rag Woven Kimono Sash
$90.00 USD
mid twentieth century
112" x 7 1/4", 284.5 cm x 18.5 cm
Shown here is a sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven from a weft of shredded, recycled cottons.
The cotton warp yarns are very thin and dense; they are of a grey or putty color. The weft rag yarns are similarly neutral in color with the exception of bright orange and mottled purple/pinkish yarns with dart across the length in fairly controlled bars.
An unusually colored sakiori obi in good condition.
