A Striped Large Zokin: Oval Repair
$25.00 USD
ca. early twentieth century
12" x 15 1/2", 30.5 cm x 39.25 cm
This is a really wonderful, hand stitched zokin, a traditional dustrag that is created from scraps of old cloth in what may be arguably one of the last phases of repurposing of old cloth.
This one is of a good size--please see the dimensions listed
above. It is also sewn from richly striped cotton cloth and it shows an oval shaped repair which reveals an indigo patch used in this mending. It is thick with layers.
Vertical rows of haphazard sashiko stitching keep this layered rag quilted in place.
Just charming.
