A Small Traditional Cotton Zabuton #1: Very Light Cotton Padding
early twentieth century
13" x 17" x 1/4", 33 cm x 43 cm x .5 cm
This small sitting cushion is a traditional Japanese zabuton which is a kind of seating pillow.
This zabuton is of a small size and it is extremely lightly padded with cotton wadding, so light that its merely a suggestion of padding, so please do not expect this small zabuton to have a good volume of fill because it does not.
The face is of a really beautifully colored and designed striped cotton and the back is pieced from old scraps of very dark indigo dyed cotton. The condition is well-used with some flaws.
A wonderful link to old Japan, and a very useful item, still.
Beautiful.
