A Small Piece Constructed Bag: Brightly Colored Kinchaku

$35.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
4" x 4" x 4", 10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm

This is a charming object, it is a small drawstring bag or kinchaku that has been hand stitched from re-purposed kimono silks and cottons of very nice quality and good age. The silks date from the early part of the 20th century. The bag is seemingly unused.

The bag is perfectly sewn and the pieces are arranged in a playful, showy way--all the individual pieces are set on a diagonal--that is extremely charming.

Some of the pieces are chirimen or crepe silk and some are commercially produced cotton.

This is a bag of  bold design and deft construction that shows a striking combination of colors and patterns.

Lovely.
