A Small Intensely Decorated Rajasthani Pouch: Mirrors, Pearls, Intricate Stitching

$60.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
6 1/2" x 5 1/2", 16.5 cm x 14 cm

This very small cotton bag from Rajasthan, India, is the size of a pocket or pouch, and it is elaborately stitched, mirrored, beaded and fringed.

The stitching--a network of triangles set in formation--is exacting and tight.  The stitching, overall, is in exceptional condition for its age, and there are no threads missing nor worn away.  The same is true of the inset mirrors on both sides of the pouch: they are all there adding a shimmering aspect to the heavily embroidered bag.

The yellow, green, blue and pink fluffy cotton fringe is dense and also very much present, but pay special attention to this fringe: you will notice small, pearl-like beads stitched into this fringe.

The original drawstring is missing, however that is probably the only deficit to this amazing little bag.

A superb little thing.
