A Small Crepe Silk Bag: Pictures

$40.00 USD

early twentieth century
3 1/2" x 4" x 4", 9 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm

This brightly colored, small drawstring bag is hand stitched from chirimen or crepe silk pieces.  It is super charming because of the deeply saturated colors, the child-like, appliqued images and the generally whimsical air.

Shown is a scene of water or clouds, a bridge and some form of tower all appliqued to the surface of the bag. The stitched image is augmented with hand painted details. Note the delightful camellia flower on the base of the bag.

In used condition and with its original drawstring, this is a delightful object from old Japan.
